Haven’t posted any photography in a while!

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 3GS and started taking more “experimental photography.”

(A quick aside: I upgraded from an iPhone 3G 8GB that I got the day they were released. I’ve dropped the thing so much that before I upgraded, the phone ran so slow. The Home Button was actually damaged the day I got it but I never knew until months later and the pins on the USB connector were loose and sometimes the charger popped out when you moved it when while charging. That being said, I thought I was going to get maybe… $50 if I sold the phone. A quick search on eBay.com showed that iPhones in worse shape than mine were going for well over $200 when their auctions ended. Long story short, I put mine up and because of eBay, I ended up getting a new phone for free. Point being: if you are eligible to upgrade, throw your phone up on eBay and upgrade for free. Thank you eBay… On to the story now.)

Thanks to the speed of the iPhone 3GS and the autofocus camera, I can now do more photography. Visiting a friend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, I got to use one of my favorite iPhone apps again, Pano.

Pano was one of the first photo apps I’ve ever used for the iPhone and I love finding new places to use it. It showed me that the iPhone can be a powerful photo taking tool. Thanks Debacle Software!

Armed with a shiny new iPhone 3GS, I finally get to use TrueHDR. I’ve been waiting to get an iPhone 3GS just to use this app.

I’m still figuring out how to take good photos with high dynamic range. We’ll have to revisit this in another blog post. Maybe when it’s not cold out and my hands are too frozen to be playing around with my iPhone in the streets!

I’m also learning how to make Wigglegrams with the iPhone app 3D Camera. Click here to see an example. (Too big to post.) I love this app! As a kid, I always thought 3D photos were the coolest thing ever. As an adult, I’m glad I can make all sorts of stereograms and 3D photos with one app on my mobile phone.

Gamers, you may already have a space heater.

EDIT: Well hey now! This post was linked to by the lovely folks at Joystiq.com! Thanks guys!

Winter in NYC

For some, Winters in New York City can be the worst time of the year.

Living in New Jersey most of my life, Winter was never truly that bad. Sure, digging your car out of the snow wasn’t pleasant but most homes and apartments were always well heated and I was graced with an autostarter on my car. Trips anywhere were always toasty the moment I got behind the wheel. Traveling anywhere in NJ during Winter meant bundling up in your warm home, running to your car, getting into a warm car, driving, running out of your warm car into the outside world and getting inside somewhere. Living in New York City is totally different.

Even if you live close to a subway stop, sometimes your destination may be a few blocks away from your home. And no matter how crowded the streets are, it’s always cold in NYC. The worst part about living in NYC is the amount of residents an apartment building may have. Because of which, the temperature is not controlled by you, but by your landlord. Most New Yorkers’ Facebook and Twitter streams were littered with complaints about freezing apartments the moment the chill came into the city. Some resort to space heaters even though those may hike up their electricity bill. And since New Yorkers love to drink, alcohol consumption has also been used as an alternative to stay warm. (I wonder which is cheaper per month?)

However, I’ve made a great discovery in how to keep warm this Winter.

I live in a brownstone in Brooklyn and I have two small rooms. One is my bedroom and the other is my office/TV room. Since this building is old, we have old iron radiators.

Unfortunately, the landlord sets the heat on and off at the oddest intervals and the heater in my office/TV room doesn’t work at all. So when it’s off, my bedroom is freezing. However, no matter what, I’ve noticed my office/TV room is NEVER cold when I’m in there. Lately, I’ve been doing work on my laptop while watching TV and I’ve been catching up on shows via Netflix with my Xbox 360. I’d fire up my big HDTV, put on a show, sit on the couch and work away for a few hours. After I was done, I’d get ready for the day. I would take a shower and head into my bedroom to change only to get hit by a giant wave of cold… But why? How did I not expect my bedroom to be freezing? Then I realized what has been keeping my other room so toasty.

Who would’ve guessed that the Xbox 360 would act as a lovely space heater. We all know the Xbox 360 generates a lot of heat. We also know that Xbox 360s can overheat, especially if they are kept in a closed cabinent. But my TV rack is open so the heat from the Xbox can leak all over my room and keep me warm. Between all the work I can do at home and the TV shows to watch on Netflix, I just saved myself some money on buying a space heater and spending more on my electric bill!

So that’s my little winter tip for all you gamers out there. Save money and snuggle up to your Xbox this Winter to stay warm! Happy gaming! And don’t forget to add my Facebook Fan Page to keep up to date with all my postings, links and discussions!

Video Diary: Philadelphia Fashion Week 2009

Here’s a short video diary I made when I went to Philadelphia Fashion Week 2009 as a DJ.

I regret not filming more, but like the video says, I was too busy enjoying myself to get the best bits on camera. If you want to download any of the DJ sets I made, check out the post I made.

It was a fun trip and I’d love to record more short video diaries like this.

Seth Godin Talks about Dunbar’s Number

I just read a great post by Seth Godin about Dunbar’s Number.

With the ever amounting number of friends on social networks, can we realistically keep track with and engage all these people? How far does the number scale up? I personally have about 600 people on my Facebook account. The thing is, I personally know 97% of those people. I only add people to my Facebook account that I’ve met in real life. Only about 3% are “Internet friends.” Although, these are people that I actively engage with and that’s why they also exist on my Facebook account.

Seth’s post is a great read for anyone that has issues with realistically keeping up with all these people.

HIRE ME: Independent Social Media Administrator

“Independent Social Media Administrator?” A lot of fancy words that mean something very simple, yet very poweful!

You own a business or have a product/service you’d like the world to know about. You’d like a way to stay in touch with hundreds, if not thousands of current and potential customers. But let’s be realistic, between running your business and your personal life, you probably don’t have the time to keep up with it all. Having me as your social media administrator can help you. I believe in it and so does David Meerman Scott.

There are hundreds of sites being used my millions of people. Traditional advertising like print, radio and TV just aren’t making the same impacts that social media does. The price of traditional advertising is astronomical, yet free services like Twitter and Facebook are thriving. Millions of users are interacting with each other every minute of every day. They are discussing current news, events and sharing links to web pages and YouTube videos. Every large company has gotten on board with this concept and have saved millions of dollars utilizing free services to make the impacts that traditional and expensive media used to promise. Traditional print ads in some of New York’s most popular publications cost anywhere between $500 – $10,000 per ad. Sometimes some of those ads only run once!

With social media and certain Internet tools, your computer or mobile device can become an instant portal to who is talking about you. Instead of just passive advertising like print, you can immediately interact with your customers and spur conversation. A social media administrator can have up to the minute data about who is talking about your brand and can respond right away. It’s instant customer service. In only 10 hours, singer Amanda Palmer made over $10,000 using Twitter. And even the comedian Drew Carey is trying to raise $1 Million via Twitter!

It’s a lot for a young or even seasoned business to keep up with. New companies work hard gaining new clients and improving their products. Older companies are doing their best to maintain their expected income and gain more ground. Hiring an independent social media administrator can be a great way to help.

I’ll be there alongside you helping you thrive, connect and stay ahead of your competition. I’ve personally been studying influential psychology and social media and have been working on a business plan that will help any business use social media to their advantage. Utilizing free services like Twitter and Facebook, I can help you stay in touch with thousands per day. I will monitor the Internet for brand mentions or keywords so you can keep the conversation going as well as stay up to date with trends. I’ll make sure the world knows about your events and I’ll share your content across multiple websites. You will be able to saturate the web, but not drown it.

Being able to connect with customers instantly is key. Being able to react and adapt to trends will give you an edge.

Contact me now to get information about what services I offer and price discussion. I’ll create a custom plan and pricing for you depending on your needs, goals and income.

PS: The best time to start with social media is now. Save time and money trying to figure out social media and hiring someone who costs more than your normal employees. My plans and techniques are the combination of Internet, marketing and psychology research. The rules are always changing and it’s good to have someone on your side who is riding the wave. Contact me now and let’s do what your competition isn’t.

And don’t forget to add my Facebook Fan Page to keep up to date with all my postings, links and discussions!
